so let's say like, your next door neighbor's tunes are suuuuuper loud and you're all, "this is terrible, I can't think!" So you break out a CD or whatever you kids nowadays use to play music and it's the sound of nothing. You turn it up to 11 and everything quiet as hell. Can't hear anything, the other neighbors are complaining about it. They phone the cops, they show up at your place, knock on your door, you open it and all you see is them mouthing words that you don't hear over the sound of silence. So you turn down your nothing and the cops are audible this time around, and tell you you to turn down your quietness, because they've received a silence report from your neighbors. That'd be cool. Question is, is this a thing? Can you record nothing and listen to it to drown out the something? Also, there's the whole quietest room in the world... this is the second question, what would music sound like recorded in there? Is it better and if so, how much better and in what way?

Absence of sound =/= presence of silence however you look at it.
Continuous signals are basically white noise, and amplification will only make it louder. As such it's thereotically impossible to, as you put it, 'record nothing'.

yes, but you would need to put a black hole into your headphones, which would of course quickly absorb you and the rest of the world in fairly quick succession

In complete absence of sound, your brain will fill the silence with auditory hallucinations. It is impossible to achieve complete silence.

You want to get high from sensory deprivation? Well follow these steps:
