Topic: Final album review, #50: Greatest album of all time................
+Review Guy !lp7gpoTp6Y — 10.8 years ago #43,406

And so we come to the end. The number 1, the benchmark, the apotheosis of albums.
Released in 1977 (a great year for music, giving us other classic albums like A Farewell To Kings, Seconds Out, Hotel California, Rumours and Bat Out Of Hell), this album is often over-shadowed by those which came immediately before (Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here) and after (The Wall), but for me this is Pink Floyd's highest achievement: Animals.
There are only 3 proper songs on here, Pigs, Dogs, and Sheep, bookended by the short Pigs On The Wing Parts 1 and 2. It's a flawless piece of work. Very loosely based on Orwell's Animal Farm, and taking shots at conservative politicians like Mary Whitehouse along the way, this contains some of Waters' best lyrics, and Gilmour's best guitar playing (the solo in Dogs is the most beautiful ever written in my opinion). Pigs recycles the bass riff from Have A Cigar on the previous album, but ends with a stunning solo from Gilmour again. Sheep has a great re-write of the 23rd Psalm, and also brings back the ascending keyboard riff from Welcome To The Machine (also from the previous album). Just a totally perfect record.
My #1 favourite album of all time.
And that's that. The end. Thanks for coming along, and so long!

Why final? Did the haters get to you? Will you consider doing a tech/gadget review? So many questions, not enough time.

I'm going to take some time off, have a few weeks in the Algarve, and then decide what to do next.

Fantastic memories of many trips. One was the discovery that Sardines are far more better for real then the ones out of a can.
Right on the beach grilled over charcoal. Not so much so easy to find here in USA -
Algarve is beach fantastic!!! Driving through the Cork tree groves - fantastic.

Is the Algarve a 15 minute scooter ride from the dead-end hovel you rent?

Inability to understand foreign languages is a symptom of Not being in Employment, Education or Training. As a NEET, Doc does not understand any languages beyond his homeland of England.

OP has the money to go on vacation.
Living on the dole as you do will just never be enough for you to go on a vacation.

You forgot to mention that the printed lyrics for Sheep differ slightly from the actual lyrics.
You also failed to mention The Grand Illusion among the other great albums of '77.

And also News of the World (Queen), Songs From The Wood (Jethro Tull), Peter Gabriel's first solo album, The Clash, Exodus (Bob Marley), I Robot (Alan Parsons Project), Going For The One (Yes), Never Mind The Bollocks (Sex Pistols), Draw The Line (Aerosmith), and Slowhand (Eric Clapton).
There wasn't enough space.
