Longest Time Breath Held Voluntarily

Longest Time Breath Held Voluntarily-record set by Tom Sietas

[Aug 10] NEW YORK-A German free diver has plunged himself into a plexi-glass tank full of water on live television and held his breath for more than 15 minutes - smashing his own Guinness World Record.

Tom Sietas’s new record for ‘Longest Time Breath Held Voluntarily’ - which stands at 15:02 - beat his previous time by 37 seconds.

Out of breath ... Tom Sietas, 30, shows his delight as he breaks his own Guinness World Record. AP

He said he quickly knew he would beat his own world record. "After the first two minutes I felt quite confident," Sky News reported. After the stunt he said: "I'm hungry...I think I'm going to McDonalds."

Sietas also holds the world record, at 9 minutes and 8 seconds, for holding his breath underwater without inhaling oxygen first.

Sietas has some natural advantages, such as lungs that are 20 per cent larger than average for his size, said Dr. Marc Spero, a lung expert affiliated with the Divers Alert Network.

He also manages not to move in a situation that would have most people splashing and gasping for, well, air. A corpse-like stillness is central to his success, as it decreases his need for oxygen, Spero said. Underwater, Sietas clears his mind. "Let's say I had an argument with my girlfriend, I would get upset, and my heart rate would go up. I really don't think about anything," Sietas said.

Today’s effort is just one in a week-long cavalcade of record-breaking feats he has performed on American talk show Live with Regis and Kelly.

Largest scrotum: Wesley Warren Jr. sets world record (Video)

LAS VEGAS, USA --- Wesley Warren, a 47-year-old man from Las Vegas, suffers from a scrotal lymphedema: his body stores water inside the scrotum, and this prevents him from leading a normal life; his scrotum weighs more than 100 pounds (nearly 50kg) , setting the world record for the Largest scrotum, according to World Record Academy (www.worldrecordacademy.com).

   Continuing to swell,
largest scrotum Wesley Warren

Warren's scrotum now weighs close to 50kg, forcing the former salesman out of the workforce and into his home where he is visited twice weekly by a nurse and must rest himself on a padded milk crate.

The Guinness world record for the largest aneurysm of the ascending aorta removed from the human body was 11.7 cm (4.9 in) in diameter and was removed from Sylvia Ast (Germany) at Deutsches Herzzentrum in Munich, Germany.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest number of brain tumours removed in a single operation is nine from the 78 year old patient H.S. Agarwal (India). Dr. Charitesh Gupta (India) performed the surgery at the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences in Dehradun, India.

"It's not easy to get around," Warren told the Las Vegas Review-Journal of his 100-pound scrotum. "It makes me stay in most of the time."

Warren has trouble getting dressed, breathes heavily, and is forced to use a makeshift pedestal made from a pillow and milk crate to ease the pain caused by the pendulous mass.

When he goes out, he covers himself in baggy clothes.

Warren was diagnosed with scrotal lymphedema - a debilitating, massive swelling of the scrotum that results from lymph fluid and tissue buildup.

"Patients referred with this condition have scrotums so large that the sheer size interferes with walking," according to the Center for Reconstructive Urology in Orange, Calif.

An army of medical specialists have examined Warren, but have reached differing diagnoses, including scrotal elephantiasis, scrotal lymphedema and scrotal edema.

He is asking for donations to help him afford a $1 million surgery to remove 100 pounds of tissue from his scrotum.
