The US ran out of names after a while since it has 1,000,000+ roads... so, yeah. Apart from interstates or major highways which often use a simple numerical system to denote E-W (odd numbers), N-S (even numbers), in most cases the numbering system is for the convenience of residents and tourists alike as the esteemed Dr. G. Louie suggested.
