Topic: Album review #32: Opeth, Deliverance

Bit of a pleasant surprise this one. I remember not liking it at all when I first heard it some years ago, but I just dug it out and played it and it's actually a really great album. Much more accessible than most of their other (early) records.
There are only 6 songs on this (5 proper songs and a short Genesis-tribute instrumental piece), but those songs are long, clocking in at between 10 and 14 minutes. They are never boring, there is enough change of pace and dynamics to keep it interesting from start to finish. Highlights would be the first 3 tunes, and especially the finale of the title track, which has an incredible drum beat.
Highly recommended for those (and I know there are many on here) who miss the old-style Opeth.
8/10
