Subtitled 'Future Sequence', this 2012 follow-up to their earlier EP 'Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues' continues the baffling story of...well, I have no idea actually, even by the standards of concept albums this is complete gibberish.
But musically this album is on another level. I'm not a fan at all of growling/screaming vocals, but I make an exception for this. If you think of the vocals as another instrument it becomes tolerable.
Every track on this album is a dense barrage of musical ideas, played with stunning virtiosity. This is actually what turns a lot of people off this band, they find the songs disjointed and chaotic, but for me it somehow works.
This is their best album, better even than Colors. Recommended to anyone who either plays an instrument to a high level, or appreciates musicianship for the sake of musicianship.
9/10
