Topic: Album review #29: Tool, 10,000 Days

Finishing off the Tool discography, we come to their last release, issued all the way back in 2006 (still no sign of activity from the band so it's looking likely we may be waiting another few years at least).
If Aenema (reviews passim) was their experimental album, and Lateralus (reviews passim) their prog metal masterpiece, 10,000 Days is a mixture of both...but much less successful on the whole. There is far too much unneccesary material here, in particular during the 2 long pieces Wings For Marie (touching lyrics aside, this is really quite dull for 17 minutes), and the 11-minute Rosetta Stoned, which seems to be a song about shitting the bed. Plus there are yet more of those pointless interval pieces.
That said, there are 3 truly great tracks on here: Vicarious, The Pot, and what may be their finest song, Right In Two.
Cautiously recommended for those with lots of patience.
7/10

Rosetta Stoned is about a guy who got high and thought he was abducted by aliens that told him to give a message to Earth. Lost Keys is the prologue.
