Topic: Album review #28: Radiohead, Kid A

Few albums have confused and disappointed their fanbase more than Kid A, Radiohead's follow-up to the over-rated OK Computer (seriously, if that was the "Dark Side of the Moon of the 90s" I'd hate to hear what the Ummagumma was).
Having become the world's most popular band with their brand of guitar-based prog-infused rock, in 2000 they decided to break away from everything the band had been about and began to explore new musical terrain, largely discarding melody and focussing entirely on rhythm and textures. The results took a long time to really make sense with me (even though it's a very brief record, clocking in at barely over 40 minutes), but over time I came to appreciate and love this album.
It needs to be listened to from start to finish, but highlights include Kid A, Motion Picture Soundtrack, and the beautiful How To Disappear Completely.
A challenging but rewarding listen.
8/10
