Topic: Album review #22: Mono, Palmless Prayer/Mass Murder Refrain

Properly speaking this is a collaboration between Japanese post-rockers Mono and their weird avant garde compatriot 'Worlds End Girlfriend'.
On polls and lists which call for the most depressing album ever made, this one almost always tops them. It isn't difficult to see (hear) why. Over 75 minutes, these 5 wordless tracks build up to a kind of aching, melancholy yearning which I personally have never heard before in music. The tracks don't have titles, beyond "Trailer 1, 2, 3, 4, 5". The last one, Trailer 5, is the crowning masterpiece of this band. 19 minutes of perfection. However this is one of those albums whose full effect can only be achieved by listening to it from start to finish.
In my top 10 albums of all time, and recommended for anyone who likes minimalistic post-rock music. Oh, and it has really great album art.
9/10
