nah, you run around looking for spawned items and trying on various types of clothing to see which has the most slots. or you can build lots of crates, but I suggest doing that before you pick up tons of shit because it's really annoying to have to go cut down a tree and then not have enough space to carry the wood, so you have to run back and forth moving stuff or else surrender it to be despawned.

Zombies will spawn in all areas with civilization-like structures (houses, roads, stores etc.)
I set up my first spot at Summerside military base because it has a fuel tank, but it also has a much higher zombie population so I have to clear the place every time I come back or else they'll wreck my vehicle. It's also one of 2 places where it's possible for a giant zombie to spawn, and those niggers are brutal. I think the roof of the medical clinic in Stratford is probably the best strategic place I've found so far.

The items seem to de/re-spawn when you load another area, so going to Summerside or the lighthouse should refresh what's available when you go back to Stratford. Or you could just exit the world and re-enter, but that's like cheating.
