Topic: Album review #15: Peter Gabriel, Passion

This is Gabriel's soundtrack to Martin Scorsece's film 'The Last Temptation of Christ'. Gabriel is currently working on a full reissue of his solo catalogue, hence my reviewing this now; this album being, in my view, his masterpiece.
Even as far back as the first proper Genesis abum in 1970, Trespass, Gabriel's interest in world music rhythms was obvious. He would later explore this interest to its full on his 4th solo album, and here, on Passion.
Passion evokes the music of a plethora of cultures and ethcnicities in order to tell the story of Christ, that very local Galilean Jew who nevertheless became the most universal of all figures. It does it wonderfully. This is one of the most important albums in my collection. I actually had the astonishing pleasure, in the summer of 2013, of listening to this album via my ipod in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jersualem (i.e the place of Christ's crucifixion).
