Topic: Album review #11: Roger Waters, Amused to Death
+Anonymous A — 11 years ago #42,728
This seminal album was re-issued this week in stereo and 5.1 mixes, so this seems an opportune time to re-visit this important final solo work from Pink Floyd founder Roger Waters.
Waters has often said he considers this the 3rd part of his trilogy of masterpieces, the first 2 being Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall. I'm not sure I'd go that far (the rest of the 70s Floyd albums top this), but it is a brilliant album.
Album highlights iclude The Bravery Of Being Out Of Range, What God Wants Part 3, and the stunning Too Much Rope, with its infamous (and at the time contraversial) lines:
Muslim or Christian
Mullah or Pope
Preacher or Poet
Who was it wrote
"Give any one species too much rope and they'll fuck it up"?
Jeff Beck comes in on guitar, Waters having (wisely) decided against retaining Eric Clapton's services (great technician, but so little feel).
A great, great record, and I strongly advise investing in the new 5.1 mix.
9/10
