Rarely has a band undergone such a dramatic change of sound. Starting in the 90s as a doom metal band, this group - hailing from Liverpool, England, which is of course the birthplace of that other great and world-famous band, The Las - Anathema are today synonymous with prog rock.
This most recent platter picks up where 2012's excellent Weather Systems left off. A powerful, tuneful homage to the golden age of 70s prog. Think Pink Floyd, or even the more mellow tunes of King Crimson or early Yes.
The miserabalism can get a little tiresome after a while, and I'd say this album is a step down from their previous 2. But it does have enough good material to warrant a recommendation.
