Alcoholics Anonymous helped me discover my true self. After 6 weeks of listening to other people cry about why they want to quit drinking, I went home, opened a bottle of Jack Daniels, and haven't looked back since.

My girlfriends dad joined AA. They convinced him that he was only partially responsible for acts commited while drunk. When he came home from rehab he gave a big speech to his wife and children about how they have to accept his apologies, or they'll be bad Christians. He denied every shameful drunken antic and then still expected them to forgive him.

One of the steps is to write out everything you did to people while intoxicated, and ask for their forgiveness. Idk what kind of bass ackwards AA meetings he was attending, but most AA groups are not like that.
