Manson has been through a host of line-up changes over the last 10 years or so, and the output has suffered for that. Following the excellent trilogy of albums early in their career (Antichrist Superstar - Mechanical Animals - Holywood), they put out a stroing of below-par albums.
Now though, Manson has offered up this new disc, and it's a very pleasant surprise. An intimate album, largely just him doing it all. Gone is the silly Satanist shock image, which he's clever enough to realise doesn't frighten Middle America these days, who have moved on to new and different perceived threats. This album is just him and his thoughts.
It's a good record, his best since Holywood. Check it out if you like his more low-key, atmospheric songs from earlier releases.
