Topic: Album review #5: Noel Gallagher, Chasing Yesterday
+Anonymous A — 11 years ago #42,663
Although finished in early 2014, it wasn't until March of this year that Noel Gallgher's 2nd solo album finally saw the light of day.
The official name of this 'project' is Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, but it's still basically just him. And it shows. Every one of these tracks has that signature Noel/Oasis stamp. Good melodies and soaring choruses. Simple rock music, and nobody does it better.
Does it measure up to his debut, or indeed the first 2 Oasis albums? Probably not. For me, the songs on the first one were a little more consistently brilliant. That said, the first and last tracks here (Riverman and The Ballad of the Mighty I) are among the best tunes he's written.
Solid album.
7/10

@OP
Noel Gallagher's voice sounds like a donkey getting fed through a woodchipper. Upgrade to Merzbow if you really like that kind of noise.
