Topic: Album review #2: Nightwish, Endless Forms Most Beautiful
+Anonymous A — 11 years ago #42,593
In an unlikely pairing, Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish teamed up with everyone's favorite atheist curmudgeon, Richard Dawkins, for this new effort.
It took a while to get into this but having given it a few months to settle I can say that this is by far their strongest album since Once (which many regard as their finest to date). The last track, cloking in at an epic 24 minutes, is a musical setting of Dawkins' evolution book, The Greatest Show On Earth. It has some brilliant moments, but on the whole it isn't much to write home about.
The shorter tracks are the real strength of this record. Melodic, fun, great playing. Crisp production also, no brick-walling on this one.
Strongly recommended.
9/10.
