-_-.pngSo, I've got this Wacom Bamboo drawing tablet, but the proximity sensor makes it extremely difficult to draw because it senses movement in the air and jumps the cursor around when I don't want it to. Any advice?

+Syntax 11.4 years ago, 4 minutes later[T] [B] #449,947

I can make a suggestion that will help. Western Digital has moved on to Helium filled hard drives - Top end stuff.

Fill your room with Helium. Tanks are easy to obtain.

how far are you talking about when it sense your stylus midair
it is normal to sense midair and it should move your cursor around without any action
like you roll the mouse around without clicking

OK so besides my hi tek suggestion I looked at web for users manual. Its loaded with settings a lot of settings on sensitivity - Looks like a quality product just based on user interface.

Google was not used for my first suggestion.
Currently one of the WD Helium hard drives is serving as a paper weight until I get to it.

It's not the Cintiq, it's the Bamboo.

@449,955 (On !Uvm54ORbmo)
2-3 inches above the surface. In my opinion it shouldn't register unless the tip is less than 1 inch away.

·Syntax 11.4 years ago, 15 minutes later, 1 hour after the original post[T] [B] #449,974

@previous (FuckAlms !vX8K53rFBI)
Yea manual says
> The pen enters proximity when the tip or eraser is brought
within 5 mm (0.2 inch) of the Cintiq screen surface.

Looked into how this electromagnetic thing works - One can see a lot of details from this non manual view
http://wishidknownthat.blogspot.com/2009/04/fixing-wacom-bamboo-pen.html

Very cool technology. So close proximity is necessary to get EMR up to the pen itself. Still looks like playing with the Tablets sensitivity settings is worth a try.

ionno, see if there's any options in settings

Hold shift like an autist when you're straight lines and definitely play with and tweak the sensitivity settings. This is just one of the weak points on the boos. Not insurmountable but it can be frustrating.

I just upgraded my laptops to some OCZ SSDs, shit is so cash. WD is making a huge mistake going for HFHDs.

Been grinding my gears in brain over.

FuckAlms says
> It's not the Cintiq, it's the Bamboo.

I disagree. For the most part the Bamboo is passive. Complex with real delicate electromagnetic motor of sort inside yet still all the user interface is contained inside the Cintiq

So any sensitivity issues are Cintiq based. Given there are lots of adjustments to be played with - with no default for playing - Betting the solution is Such

I did not dig deep on web but did not see any user gripes similar - many had issues that were resolved but none as FuckAlms describes

On other sites I read similar problems. The single largest gripe is tips wearing out quickly and the rough surface that grinds away on the tips. People have solved this with a added interface and many have suggestions on wot works

> I find that not cursing around my wacom helps to reduce its sensitivity.
> Probably a few good hugs and complements would work too. I would stop at gifts like flowers and or candy though.

Funny stuff on deviated art.

Perhaps when he reads wot you found and wot he experiences he will have Other things to say Blaming the air? Is the pen asking for a BJ?

I dug deeper in2 the technology - Its a very cleaver solution that uses a principle I have only read about for years but have never once worked with. It is also highly Analog in technology.
Stuff to convert hand movements to analog and then digital go wayyyyyy back even b4 1900's and solutions are mind boggling with plethora of solutions. Just stuff I never worked on but was close to people who worked on the Teleautograph device to send signatures over phone lines. Loaded with servos a fav technology of mine.

That pen which of course is a mouse type of device probably has the same decades of development b4 then get it rite and make people happy.

ok, 2-3 inches is over-exaggeration. it's about half an inch, but that's still too much for me. basically what I'm looking for is contact-only tracking. is that possible?

So I assume by now you have tried several of the user interface sensitivity settings and found that Fail?

The tablet uses a 512 KHZ RF field to excite the electromagnet inside the pen. So yes you could add attenuation to reduce that field so absolute contact is necessary.

This kind of stuff is somewhat easy to do but it comes with limitations - Like at the edge of the interface where you place the shield. So at the center to a point near the edge you can reduce for your hearts desire but near the edge you are going to get iffy results - If you are willing to give it a go there are all kinds of ways to cut the intensity of the RF field down.
