I switched gyms once and the previous gym wouldn't let me even cancel in person or speak to the manager/owner. I asked to see a copy of whatever contract we signed but the girl at the desk would "have to ask the manager" first... who was never there. I called and visited a few more times but eventually gave up. At that point I just wanted to chew someone else out anyway.

I had to send my cancellation notice via certified mail.

You can just stop your direct debit though your bank. If they claim you owe them money you can tell them to take you to small claims court

Too much hassle. The gym I was with had an agreement with the company and so it came out my checks. I told payroll to stop payment before I even sent the cancellation and it still came out the next month. I don't know what ducky's situation is but these gyms intentionally make it a nightmare to get out of a contract and no one has time for small claims court over that.

It's supposed to simplify things I guess. We got a discount and it came out of our paychecks. Never again.
