Topic: I don't always hate pop music.

But when I'm trying (and failing) to go to sleep, it sucks.
My music library is organized into a root folder, containing miscellaneous songs by artists that I have a low concentration of. Then there is the further organized artist/album folders for artists I have a high concentration of, or a compilation album.
Currently, I'm using CDex's player function to play music while I sleep. At first I tried loading the root and all subdirectories, but that wound up crashing the player. Since I can only specify all subdirs or no subdirs, I'm forced to go with none in order for the program to function. Of course, CDex is designed for ripping music, and the player function is somewhat bare bones. It doesn't seem to be able to use m3u playlists and tries to play them like a media file, resulting in an error. Last week, I became aware of a flaw in either the program or one of my files that would cause the song "Just a Girl" by No Doubt and one other random song to frequently be caught in a loop, forcing me to get up and manually skip to break out of the loop. This eventually drove me nuts enough to reload the files and specifically exclude "Just a Girl" for the sake of my sanity.

Well, about 10 minutes ago, "Underneath It All" came up. Now, I like the song enough to have it in my library, but my music generally serves as a background to whatever else I'm doing, so I don't focus on it. But when I'm trying to go to sleep, I have to actually make an effort to shut my brain up, which is hard enough as it is. So music is the only thing I have to focus on to prevent my brain from having thoughts. Suddenly "Underneath It All" starts playing and I immediately become aware of just how painfully unimaginative the song really is. The entire lyrical content is two sentences repeated for three minutes over an upbeat, well... beat, with next to no variation whatsoever. That's the first time I've ever wanted to shove a spoon up my nose to scoop my brains out.
