wear headphones. earbuds won't work because people can't always see them easily. medium size works best. you can also get the big old school looking type that totally encloses the ear, but those might attract hipsters or studio engineers.

It's not foolproof, but it keeps most of the unwashed masses from attempting to initiate contact. If she opts for circumaural or supra-aural headphones they need to be at least a sennheiser or... oh wait, nvm... although I think audiophiles/studio engineers/hipsters are a smaller demographic to deal with. Beats could keep away audiophiles but plebs might try to use them as a conversation starter.
