Other natural disasters, such as flooding, typhoons and famine in mainland China would play a role in establishing Hong Kong as a place for safe shelter.

I have spent a lot of work tyme in Argentina - however I have never visited the Falklands. Low flying aircraft views of Islands but not on them.
It comes down to Argentina exists as its own country and offshore they have Islands Half a Planet Earth away from England.
Off shore here in California the Russians once attempted to control them for the furs and if they had stuck around b4 being told to leave, they wood have the oil rights currently. That was long b4 Brits took control of North America top to bottom except of course they lost out to Spain on what is currently called Mexico.
Nor have you attempted to explain the Irish situation with Catholics held down at Gunpoint year after year after year.

If Norway was a state it would be the super rich state everyone went to and Germany being way down there is silly. The EU combined has a much bigger economy than the US http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_%28nominal%29 with Germany, France and the UK being the powerhouses. Something in your link doesn't add up unless you do some carful tinkering.
