Kevin was in the army and shot a total of 57 ragheads, using 560 bullets. Derek shot 84 using 400 bullets, and Terry shot 32 using 250 bullets. Kevin later killed himself with a bullet to the head due to ptsd and crippling depression. How many people died?

I couldn't read every one because that's a lot to ask of a lazy person, but the general principle is that since we use a base-10 number system, tens are particularly easy, and if someone has not mastered the basic addition and subtraction facts up to 9 + 9, then the number 10 can be used as a bridge. However, the examples also show a an exaggerated stridency that there is an "old way" and a "new way", and the explanatory parts are too wordy. There is no old/new way. That is horseshit. People always have to make things a fight, don't they.
Easier to explain concept by way of example:
7 + 7 = 7 + 3 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14
So, basic addition facts can be mastered by first mastering pairs that sum to 10, and then using those facts to aid with gaining familiarity with the rest of the basic addition facts. But don't abandon the whole concept of mastery and practice as some example imply, as that would be retarded.

What the hell is question 1 even asking? You know 5 pennies and there's a teacup arbitrarily marked '6'?! What does this have to do with anything?
If I subtract apples from oranges, I get negative plutonium guys!

Is this how they teach math to niggers?
+Syntax — 11.9 years ago, 3 minutes later, 17 hours after the original post[T] [B] #424,577

OR as they first taught me at Hughes Research labs b4 I attended UCLA USC etc etc
Convert numbers base 10 to Hexadecimal so instead of base 10 ya have a much more powerful base 16 and the number 10 exists as the letter A. Then you get Nibbles Octets Bytes to play with and from then on and forever you forget about base 10 and let Machines do the math for you. Chinese Abacus can do Hex conversions with added value of multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, square root and cube root and I have watched Chinese on such doing a cube root faster then I can hit my fingers on a key board for a solution
Joke for those into Hex
Why do mathematicians always confuse Halloween and Christmas?
Because 31 Oct = 25 Dec.

Only one trick in the Joke statement which was "those into Hex"
Hex is base 16
Octal is base 8
So 31 Oct as short for Octal
In decimal, ya no place values are - 1,000 100 10 1.
In octal, place values are - 512 64 8 1
So 31 in octal is 3x8 + 1, or 25 in decimal [2x10 + 5] In other words Dec 25
More joke?, in binary place values are 8 4 2 1. So in Math Geek circles, "There are "10 sorts of people - those who understand binary, and those who don't." (1x2 + 0 = 2)
Or in other words its a Yes or No or 1 or 0 world

I don't know but I'd like to be able to do roots that fast.

Ask "On" because in many parts of China they do teach kids the Chinese Abacus. There are various versions of Abacui so not all can do Sq or Cube roots. Its simple to learn how to use one but speed as with any new tool requires experience.

Fact of the matter is that kids are now learning a very different way to do Math. locally kids in 4th & 5th grade learn Mayan, Babylonian, {Binary Octal-Hex} and Roman Math concepts.
