At first I thought we'd overpaid, but then I remembered it's just the way the market is right now. Hell, if Lovren and Lallana are going for 20 million each, a teenage left back (Shaw) for 27 million, and an 18-year-old unproven right back (Chambers) has just been sold for 16 million, then Lukaku's 28 seems an absolute steal.
Time will show.

Shaw is making £100,000 per week, he's 19 and has had about 1 season in the prem. He's not that good. Luckely it's just the top end spending that stupid money as they are shooting for Europe. I think West Ham have made some really good buys at a better price.

West Ham's signing of Valencia could prove to be the bargain of the coming season, if he settles into the pace of the Premier League.
But back to Lukaku - I still say this could be an absolute steal. Just 21 years old, a proven goal-scorer (only Van Persie has scored more than him in the PL over the last 2 years), and with huge sell-on value.
Shrewd business by the board I think, especially when compared with the silly money being thrown around by other clubs for unproven players.

Lukaku wanted to play for a bigger side so if he has a good season I willing to bet he has a buy-out clause not much over what Everton paid for him.
