Pretentious assholes? Or transcendent musicians and song-writers? Only partially messing with Doc here, actually want to know opinions. Spinning Lateralus now.

They're all really talented musicians if you ask me, although I hear that Maynard can be a pain in the ass to work with. Lateralus, in my opinion, is where they kind of tapered off with what's their best material, although 10,000 Days was still quite good. That being said, I still prefer A Perfect Circle as far as Maynard's projects are concerned. If you've ever been to one of their concerts, you'd know that it's a pretty cerebral experience.

My experience was much different. They are good musicians but their show was so visually stimulating that I was distracted. I may have been on psychedelics though. I saw them in an arena so no one could hear shit coming out of Maynard's mouth. Everything was drastically burried under Danny Carey.

I think they're one of the few bands who really manage to stay on top of their game. Probably because they take so much time between albums, they don't get burned out.
As far as the entire album, 10,000 Days is my favorite because it has the least "noise" tracks. Viginti Tres being the only one, and at the end, but even that is actually part of a larger track.
Lateralus is my favorite as far as songs though.

I was referring to A Perfect Circle, not Tool. Tool concerts are as you described, however I never felt like Maynard's voice was not heard, but this is usually because he always takes the stage behind the other performers, that and the heavy visuals could probably be seen as what you said. Also, I wasn't on drugs when I went to their concert.

I don't think there is much wrong with the "noise" tracks as they contribute to the overall theme/concept of each album. It's mostly a personal preference of the quality of songs. I could compare some of the same to 13th Step and Mer de Noms. Agreed about Lateralus. Adam Jones really knows what he's doing when it comes to not only his composition but also his artwork. I don't really know what I want more... another APC album or another Tool album. Probably another APC album, but all said I'm not really enjoying Puscifer as much as the other two.
