Pay-to-use restroom in Kunming, China. These are never pretty, but you get accustomed to them. The one I chose, in my desperation, was down a long hallway in an old department store. I handed my $.005 to the woman at the office, and she accepted it lazily as she petted her little white Pekinese dog.
The smell that hit me when I entered was familiar, but stronger than usual. Whatever, I wasn't there to enjoy myself. But something struck me as odd --- a sort of rhythmic liquid sound coming from one of the stalls.
I turned to see a corpulant, naked white man, snout-deep in a squat, devouring a slurry of feces and urine. The man was eating feverishly, like the fetid human waste was a rare and precious treat- like when a drug addict thinks they're eating birthday cake, but it's actually pipe insulation or something. It was so engrossed that I managed to sneak quietly and do my business. He kept eating. But when I zipped up, he heard me - and spun around on his hands and knees in pure fury, growling savagely through a mouthful of semi-liquified shit. Maybe he thought I might compete for his prize? The scat fiend had pasty white skin, but his face was all brown and yellow, and his eyes two glistening marbles. His shit-covered teeth were bared in a show of madness, and I could see where his special treat had made its way up behind the lips, into every crevice in that deranged creature's mouth.
And then he chased me. He snarled and barked, but it wasn't a healthy bark. It was the bark of a man whose throat is clogged with feces. I didn't want to get whatever was going on with this sickfuck anywhere near me, so I ran. He chased me down the hall and then, undoubtedly, went back to eat.

Kunming is located in an earthquake zone and the last earthquake happened in 2012.
There were some bomb incidents in 2008 & 2913 including one in bus No.54 and one inside Salvadors' Coffee House the expats only safe place & heaven.
There are lots of pick pockets in buses, so try to keep your bags, pockets, and mobile phone safe.
There have also been reports of bag slashing in the commercial city center.
Recent travelers to Kunming (2014) have reported barber shops, massage centers, and other small shops involved in various cons. One such involves an older woman entering the shop and demanding a larger amount than was quoted. The woman together with the workers apply pressure and it can be especially intimidating to be surrounded by a shop filled with angry Chinese while your head is covered in soap (and it is dripping into your eyes), all your clothes and passport are locked in a closet (and they have the key), or together they are blocking the exit. If you give in to the much larger demanded amount, the service will continue. Disagreement can result in variations of the shop workers pushing you out with your hair half cut/full of soap, barefoot, or simply not allowing you to leave while one (or many) of the workers surround you attempting to pick your pocket. To date, so many incidents have been reported to the PSB in Kunming that they are considering setting up the first ever Tourist Police unit in Yunnan Province.
Torrential rains and flash flooding in Kunming have caused an estimated 84 million yuan (US$13.6 million) in damage to the city. Floodwaters have destroyed real estate and at least one person is missing, according to a report by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Civil Affairs.
Initial reports estimate flooding affected more than 77,000 Spring City residents. That number appears to be an extremely conservative evaluation as thousands of ground-level residences and businesses have been completely inundated.
Flooding snarled traffic in low-lying intersections and covered parked cars in almost a meter of water. The north and east of the city appear to have borne the brunt of the flooding.
