Starts in 15 minutes, Brazil versus Croatia. Predicting a fairly comfortable Brazil win.
Germany to win the tournament.
Players to watch (other than the obvious, I mean Messi, Ronaldo, etc) - Pogba (France), Neymar (Brazil), Barkley and Sterling (England), Gotze (Germany) and Lukaku (Belgium).

Why Soccer Sucks
The ever-growing list of reasons why soccer sucks.
Soccer participants actually fellate one another.
Soccer participants are walking advertisements.
France is successful at participating at soccer. That should say something, especially to the British.
The "World" Cup is not the a World's Cup, but a competition among 32 countries, disproportionately allotted to European countries.
Soccer is boring. Soccer is absurdly slow. I've had soccer apologists say with false pride how the average soccer participant "runs" 4 miles in a game. Newsflash: that means they are jogging less than 3 miles per hour. Translation: they are mostly standing around. BORING.
Ties: 55% of games are ties. Ties suck.
Why not use your hands? Or your brain?

Brazil 0 - 1 - Croatia. Marcelo own goal! The hosts just haven't got going in this opening period. Could this be one of the great World Cup shocks? Brazil have never lost their opening game in a World Cup. Still 70 minutes to go though.

It was a very weird decision, never a penalty, not in a million years. Typical, cheating, diving south Americans. Shame too, because Croatia have played really well, they don't deserve to be conned into a loss like this.

Currently another Football game uses Instant Replay that Refs often have to review.
Theory is that if Refs see their stupidity played over n over - It will make for better Refs.
One day a jury will take over and review a Refs call and their decision will be the final decision - unless of course if Judge over rules.
Game will be slowed to a crawl and then one day Jury will be booted out to speed up that game again.

Not at all. Its only a game of international fame. You're having fun which is wot life's about.
Me? If its a game I am not playing then usually I am not watching such game - However I ski nor do I watch ski events on telly. More fun to be out n about and actually playing then sitting watching - that said I do watch telly dramas n comedies so I not be judging those who enjoy watching a live event.
Almost tyme for my daily run on beach - Sky was grey but now almost 100% blue - Grey makes for more better running but for eyes not as much fun.

Generally, they're pretty good (talking globally), but in comparison to the other teams in the World Cup (the elite 32), they're pretty bad. You're in a group with Germany, Portugal and Ghana, you don't have a chance I'm afraid.

Is it because of lack of interest leading to less athletes inspired to becoming professional soccer players?

·Anonymous M — 12.2 years ago, 3 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[T] [B] #409,466

No. I think it's probably because Americans really don't give a shit about soccer so their team will never really be anything great. That or they just simply lack the talent. MLS is horribly boring to watch.
You still have the World Series, so there is that.

I've successfully translated syntax to English in the past, so I'll take a shot at this. Syntax wants to know if the top teams are made up of native born players.
·Anonymous K — 12.2 years ago, 8 minutes later, 2 days after the original post[T] [B] #409,573
@previous (I)
I don't he necessarily means natives, but player who are in their national teams. For example, Brazil and Colombia players are overwhelmingly employed in foreign teams, while Italy has players mostly in italian ones.
Or maybe not. Google translate doesn't have a Syntax-to-English feature yet.

Not being a fan of that game but willing to learn a bit about it - I have no clue who will beat whom. I do no it often is just plain chance mixed with skill. All it takes is a simple mistrake or a bad ref calls and the odds move to the other side quickly.
For sure I am not placing one dime as a bet YET - Around here there are many who do follow the game cause they come from places where its a big deal. They are only here on H1-B Visas - Towards the end I will probably add to the local betting pool for just the fun of it - Any money made will of course go to party

Not convinced by Belgium. Great individual players, but no cohesion as a team.

They failed to convince me already after they struggled to win against Algeria

Bit of a fortunate victory for the Belgians there, Hazard finally coming to life in the last 5 minutes.

Cracking game between Algeria and South Korea. Algeria have become the first African side ever to score 4 goals at a World Cup.

It's a rare thing for me to root for the USA, but I can't stand those diving, cheating, crying Portuguese, so...GO USA!!!
edit: bollocks. 4 minutes in, Portugal 1-0 up.

Great goal by the American. Go USA!!

USA!!! USA!!!!
What I love about that 2nd goal is it would have been a mile offside if the Portuguese guy hadn't been sitting on his ass, as they always are, waiting for the referee to blow the whistle for some imagined foul.

You see that fella in the blue t-shirt holding an electronic board above his head with the number '5' on it? That means 5 minutes added on.

@previous (A)
Yea but 1st they call 4 mins added then 30 seconds later its 5 added nor does ESPN have a clue b4 the 90 mins ends HOW MUCH TYME gets tacked on.
If they don't no then who the fuck does? I mean Yes they figure Refs will add tyme but how much? Only the Refs can calculate it ...it seems 2me
Anyway my billing time ends in 2 mins work wise so me off for Sat evening something

So that humidity was after all not so much a big deal after all LoL -
Once while working in a field full of large Satellite dishes (Ground station in Australia) I was surrounded by strikes and one hit and did damage to dish which has a very extensive ground protective system - I ran for cover real real fast. Later that day I left the station for home. In front of me a bolt the size of a huge tree trunk and I MEAN A HUGE TREE TRUNK hit the ground in front of my car and blew one huge frigging hole in ground.
Have other stories of first hand such events and I USED To go out of way to be outside during such storms - NO MORE NEVER EVER

A seven year old boy was at the centre of a courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with the child custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the degree possible. The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried out that they also beat him. After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him. After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the England Football team, whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone.
