I have written a total of 15 essays for this man, who has awarded me an A on all but one, which was docked to an A-. The subject matter? Changes in the lives of Women from the Industrial Revolution to the Prosperity Decade.
His comments are revoltingly discriminatory, sarcastic, and unethical. For instance, I wrote in reference to the Industrial Revolution, “Women were present for these advances infrastructure.” He replied “Were they absent in previous periods?” Yes. They were.
He also circled “first wave feminists” and put a question mark. If you need clarification as to who first wave feminists are, perhaps you shouldn’t be teaching a survey course on American history.
My favorite nitpick comment, though, was where I wrote “The Industrial Revolution took place primarily from the 1820s to the 1870s,” and he responded “In the United States.” Of course in on the United States. The subject of the paper was any topic relating to United States history. What country did he think I meant?
He also circled “Female Born” person in the sentence “During the 19th century, confinement to the household and its duties was the fate of any female born person,” and put a question mark. Does the man need a biology lesson, too?
He also needs a math lesson and some contextual reading help. I wrote “Another generation of women, many belonging to the National Women’s Party organized by Alice Paul and Lucy Burns, participated in activism such as picketing the White House and marching on Washington D.C. in 1913. However, World War I Interrupted their progress. Six years later, in June of 1919, the Nineteenth Amendment to enfranchise women was sent to the states for ratification.” He replied “The war lasted 4 years.” Ummm...yes, but six years passed between 1913 and 1919.
The most incensing comment was after I listed the challenges to female autonomy discussed in the Declaration of Sentiments and he circled “issues” with a question mark in my next sentence which read “Instrumental in challenging these issues were the National Woman Suffrage Association and the American Woman Suffrage Association.” Are being submitted to laws in the formation of which they had no voice, being, if married, deemed legally and civilly dead, and being entangled in systems which monopolized their profitable employments and barred them from professions such as theology, medicine, and law not ISSUES enough for him?
Literally can’t even right now.

Why wouldn't you research professors before signing up for classes if you're going for a gender studies degree?
