Does the teabag go in the cup or in the pot?

I'm asking because I have this Brit tea and I want to know if I did it wrong. I put the teabag in a cup and think I may have done something wrong, but I don't have a big enough teapot. Feels very stupid right now.

Tea bags can go either in the pot or the cup. One for the cup add sugar to taste top up with scalding hot water - add milk as required. Number of bags in the pot will depend on size of pot but generally three bags in a standard pot. Again top up with scalding hot water - stir and allow it to brew for a couple of minutes - pour into cup - add milk and sugar to taste. NOTE. Many tea drinkers prefer to add milk to the cup prior to pouring the tea. It does alter the taste so experiment

Never use boiling water, let it boil then leave it for a while.

Always put the bags in the pot, make sure you warm the pot first. Use one bag per person plus one.

Putting the bags in the cup is called "builders tea" and is a quick brew, perfect for a tea break.

Milk goes in after. Putting it in before the tea is terrible tea etiquette.

No boiling water. Tea should be scolded - off the boil for coffee.
