Having to take firearm safety tests in order to obtain a license, register your firearms, and undergo some sort of assessment before being able to handle guns unsupervised is only right.

I voluntarily took a safety course, was required to take another course for a concealed weapons license, and for the most part agree with you. I'm on the fence about the gun registry bit though. Some people think gun licensing is a threat to liberty but I feel like the benefits outweigh the risk provided it's not public information and the licenses are shall issue except for people who are mentally ill, violent felons, etc.
I really don't think more gun laws is the solution however. I feel like we need to do more for public mental health and reconsider many aspects of American life which contribute to these issues (starting with the workplace and schools).
Here's an interesting documentary which examines spree killings, which is really what most people are talking about when they're talking about gun violence, it's been dubbed the American disease by some, and for good reason.

Lol, I'm safe.
If you were in the UK you might never get Licence or Certificate. The Police are as strict as hell. I am fortunate in having private land on which to shoot.
