In all honestly, if we're going by how it's done in the books or movies.
It is a television show so ratings play a factor and it is also a popularity contest as well as you'll want to make the audience like you as well as sponsors.
The environment is controlled so either you hiding out or them on the hunt could very much be killed by anything.
