Topic: Trying to set up an anonymous website
+Anonymous A — 12.6 years ago #31,872

I'm trying to set up a webpage that would be completely anonymous as far as any way to trace back to me. I don't think the typical GoDaddy private registration is enough. This isn't for anything shady, but it's for a social protest where I have a reasonable chance that I could expect a corporate supoena or cease and desist---without merit, but as an intimidation tactic, and I just don't want to deal with that.
My idea:
1. Set up a burner email on Yahoo with a fake phone number
2. Register a domain with the Yahoo email address as the contact, use fake bio info, and pay with a Visa gift card
3. Point the domain to a WordPress blog set up with the Yahoo burner
4. Do it all from a public WiFi
Your thoughts? I don't need anything too crazy like offshore hosting (this isn't anything illegal or unethical, just a protest); I just want to get my message across without attention coming back to me. In return I offer /fit/ girls.

Not expecting the CIA/NSA/FBI/KGB/Chris Hansen from MSNBC bursting down my door. I thought I made that part clear when I said this wasn't for anything illegal. Just maybe some pissed corporate lawyers and I'd rather they not know who I am.

it isnt about illegal or what. You have CIA monitoring the whole interweb, they can track you down whenever they need to or feel like to. no true anonymous could be achieved under such surveillance.

Ok...it doesn't have to be COMPLETELY anonymous. It has to be reasonably anonymous. Better?

I guess. But just so you know registering anything through a public wifi have a good level of risk having your account info keylogged, not to mention actual log of your accesses.

As person suffering from the Chinese government, On is acutely aware of how tightly one's movements can be tracked.

This.
I can't type the number "6" and "4" consecutively without red armies bashing my door.

Would be safer and more convenient to use Tor rather than a public WiFi. There's a small risk of being traced through WiFi due to cameras or MAC address, no risk of being traced through Tor unless an intelligence agency wants you.

I've always been wondering how could one ensure there's no tor note that was setup by the CIA you'd run into?

The CIA would need to control both the entry node (to know who you are) and the exit node (to know what you're doing), which is very unlikely. It is possible though.
