For the TC bookclub's second selection I present:
Hot Water Music by Charles Bukowski (Mediafire) as chosen by Anonymous
E.
Hot Water Music is a collection of short stories by Charles Bukowski, published in 1983. The collection deals largely with: drinking, women, gambling, and writing. It is an important collection that establishes Bukowski's minimalist style and his thematic oeuvre.

Bukowski is pretty grate.
I'm glad you liked TWF. By the end of it I couldn't help but sympathize with the protagonist despite hir uhm... unusual pastimes. Although I imagine if I had a father like that I would be a bit mixed up too. Were you taken aback by the ending?
I suppose that sex and death have always been inseparably linked on some level. TWF is one of the few books to really make me stop and think about gender issues. Maybe that's because Banks delves into the subject from such a bizarre angle.
Finally ordered a copy of The Skin Team, after I finish First as Tragedy then as Farce, I'm going to tackle it. So much too read, so little time.

It seems like just about everyone is guilty of this to a degree. If you can't make yourself read, why not try an audiobook? Snowcrash (one of my favorites) or Ready Player One are both pretty light and entertaining and have grate audiobook adaptations available at thepiratebay and elsewhere.

I think you would enjoy it, Bert.

The Skin Team is one of the stranger books I've read, definitely worth the time.
I never ever expected that ending, just... well done, Iain Banks. Gendery books... The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things is a bit gendery, more just a child abuse book. Not the best written, but it's alright. Haven't read many gendery books; Virginia Woolf's Orlando is gendery but that's a bit different, Orlando just wakes up from a coma as a woman.

I'm looking forward to it.
Definitely not what I was expecting either.
I'll look into them. I've never read much of anything by Woolf besides part of To The Lighthouse (for a class), maybe I'll be more open to her work since I'm not being forced to read it though.
