Any ol' evil mastermind can workaround the three laws if they're creative enough. The simplest solution is for the robots to be compartmentalized. A single robot may not harm someone but multiple robots could be given various commands which when done together could cause harm to people.

Although in this particular case we assume Lance is sentient and part of a larger group of rogue robot psychics hell bent on exterminating all of mankind. (edit: Perhaps the psychic processors burnt out the three laws?)
