Topic: my night terrors
+Morbid !vbsvhaneDY — 12.7 years ago #30,683

i used to take an anti-anxiety medication which (more than anything) made me pass the fuck out and sleep like a baby.
i recently kicked it because i don't like being dependant on medication and i didn't want to have to take it in order to sleep for the rest of my life.
as a result, i have short visions and episodes of sleep paralysis when trying to fall asleep. some refer to them as night terrors (short nightmares). they're extremely vivid to the point of delirious behavior, not knowing you're (basically) dreaming, even out-of-body experiences and in certain cases can be linked to
hppd.
tonight's:
i'm laying in bed. my phone rings; i pick up and it's my friend sal, who i give a ride every now and then in the mornings. i freak out realizing i slept through the night already and get out of bed. except there is zero gravity and my room is a vacuum, so i float around like a helpless balloon, bumping into walls, and gradually raising up to my ceiling until i hit it and snap back to reality. fin

ever had sleep paralysis? shit's terrifying
but yeah i get the dependency. i don't like this medication at all but i'd off myself without it and still might so it's probably necessary

yes, sleep paralysis is a rather consistent element in my life right now. it's gotten to the point where i don't really get scared by it anymore but instead am forced to wait it out until i can snap back.
be careful with what you're prescribed and make sure to do your due diligence and research medications. i wouldn't want you offing yourself or anything, but the odd feeling of dependence is something i couldn't tolerate.

@OP
The only time I ever had anything strange like that was when I couldn't move and it felt like I couldn't breathe just before I fell asleep. I tried to move and couldn't. It was frightening.

what do you see?
10mg prozac. the dose is very low (even with kids it's generally 20mg) but even so it's fucking with me. i've been planning to jump off a bridge on friday for a while, gonna figure things out if that doesn't happen.

it is a little disheartening when you're coming out of that hazy half-asleep state and realize you can't move.
@355,899 (Ytiptych Inry !IupsXZPnnU)
i've had my fair share of hat man scenarios. what is prozac like? don't jump off a bridge. the more level-headed people around the better.

Suicidal thoughts can be caused by antidepressants. If that happens then it is advisable to see a doctor and tell them that the medicine is doing the opposite of it's intended effect. They can switch it up and try something new.

hat man? do tell
weird. sleep is weird; i don't get tired properly any more, but when i can sleep it's 10 hours at a time. hunger is weird; i eat one small meal a day, usually, and i'm not hungry besides that. i still do and think the anxiousy depressy things but they can't be felt in my torso any more, and the feelings inside my skull are weaker. i feel dumber already, and that's absolutely shit - can't focus as well on reading, words look spelt wrong when they aren't, &c. the only real benefit - and it's a large one, i suppose - is that it no longer feels like fog is crushing my mind or other such things.

if that's directed towards me, had them since before starting, planned and decided the date before starting the meds. we'll see how it is. seeing a GP on thursday to discuss how it's going, will mention the sleep and hunger.

i experienced similar side effects with an anti-depressant i've been off of for a long while now. it was a SSRI, don't take SSRIs if you plan on enjoying being alive or orgasming. if someone prescribes you a SSRI, slap them across the face. i think i got the point across. SSRIs are bad. that's all done with though.
hat man is a shadow person that for some fucking reason a shitload of people see when experiencing sleep paralysis or while tripping on any hallucinogenic drug.
see him at the foot of your bed, or in the doorway, or outside your window, then shit yourself and be paralyzed.

Give yourself time to adjust to the medication or if your doctor puts you on something else give that time to work.

my only explanation is people read about it and then succumb to their psyche later while high on something or whatever. who knows. it's really creepy though.
@previous (Ytiptych Inry !IupsXZPnnU)
oh. well shit. i hope it works out for you. but without meaning to be an asshole i can only advise you to talk with your doctor about trying an alternative. based on my past experience. who knows it effects everyone differently. i went through painfully horrific withdrawals when waning off of paxil. if you look it up, it's basically the shittiest medicine ever and should never be taken by anyone. everyone who gets put on it and quits has horrible withdrawals too.

We'll see after Friday. Someone wants to pick me up in the morning, keep me safe that day. Don't think I like that idea. Canary Wharf has lots of tall buildings, I have been planning on going there, trying to get roof access by using my camera. if that fails, i'll head over to this bridge in archway.

for me withdrawal just entailed being extremely sick. vomiting constantly, weakness, not being able to walk for long and having severe dizziness. i also had ridiculously, like fucking insane amounts of perspiration. i really don't sweat that much even when i'm active but i'm talking shirts and shirts soaked in sweat, one after the other as i peeled them off over and over until i got tired off it and didn't wear any. it was bad. hopefully your week goes well.

i don't drink. only thing it ever interacted with would have been weed, which usually just made me get more rest (paxil made my sleeping schedule super weird), or acid which of course did the opposite and left me awake for 12 hours+

Neat.
So how long do these sleep paralysis episodes last or rather how long do you perceive them to last?
Are you seeing anyone about HPPD? Keppra (levetiracetam) has been able to help a lot of people w/ it.

@previous (Antikhristos !M6R0eWkIpk)
what i usually find happens is i become aware in a dream, then make the connection back to being awake and that's when paralysis kicks in. the floating thing is actually really common... i have had weird dreamy visions where i'm floating off my bed or falling into the floor or some shit. shit's weird. always very vivid and real feeling too. haven't seen anyone about HPPD, i don't think i actually have a legitimate form of it because I don't experience problems with depth perception and the only thing i see is tracers in the dark or noise on a wall/surface.

·Antikhristos !M6R0eWkIpk — 12.7 years ago, 2 hours later, 21 hours after the original post[T] [B] #356,313
@previous (M !vbsvhaneDY)
> shit's weird
Word.
I've had lucid dreams and OOBEs but I've never dealt with sleep paralysis. The floating/falling visions/feeling I don't think are all that bizarre, although when I've experienced anything like that it's usually after an emotionally heavy event. Idk if that plays much of a part in them but it seems to help to create the right circumstances to experience them.
I wasn't sure if you were serious about the HPPD when you first mentioned it elsewhere. I wouldn't be overly concerned about it unless it's interfering w/ your life. It seems like determining what is and isn't a normal amount of "disturbances" or "aberrations" would be a bit tricky anyhow.
Although you might have to elaborate about the "noise on a wall/surface" bit. Did you mean you "see" sound? Kinda like synesthesia? Trippy stuff.
