I'm not McDonald's; my boiling water is at a fairly reasonable temperature. But it does hurt.

My diagnosis was panic attacks, depression, possibly PTSD. Most of my childhood was spent on guard against a father who, once every month or two, would beat my mother and/or brother. From the age of 9 I felt it my duty to do what I could to protect them.

So I carried a sense of doom and panic into my adult years. I would wake up in panic mode and cry for no good reason. I knew the cause but couldn't stop it.

The doc prescribed Prozac and 30 days of Xanax. I tool Prozac for 4 years. It evened me out, my anger issues and panic subsided, I was able to function throughout the day without the sense of doom and disaster. I felt happy.

I quit taking the Prozac when I began to notice a sense of depersonalization. Things that would upset a normal minded person didn't bother me at all. I fell into a sort of "I really don't care you just wrecked the car" attitude. I realized at that point that the Prozac had done it's job and it was time to stop.
