Went to the movies last week.
It was 2 for 1, still cost £30 though.

£30 for one ticket? Or does that include over priced popcorn and drinks for two?
·Anonymous C — 12.8 years ago, 43 seconds later, 8 minutes after the original post[T] [B] #343,795
@previous (!NoGoD1GamE)
It was gravity in 3d. We bought popcorn and a drink.

Seems reasonable.
@OP
You might have got that for less than $20 but what were you earning an hour? Less than $5 I'll bet

I wish I could remember what I actually made at age 17 - At 16 I found ways of earning enough money to do ALL I wanted to do, but frankly my dream of working in a TV repair shop paid off only to discover the pay was shit poor in comparison to working a union job as retail clerk for wot is now Ralphs supermarket chain. So I went back to stocking shelves n checking out customers.
Clerks could raise a family and buy a basic home on the money and back then I got a bonus for working part tyme which I found amazing then but of course all that went away years later. Back then customers wood whine about a possible mistrake and demand a full re-run through - Never failed to end up with exactly the same amount.

My wages have always gone up at a better rate than inflation. Usually a lot better. I think the % cost of things like fuel, and food compared to total income are probably better now than 20 years ago though.

Bet such is hard to find these days. Computer repair joints all over the place.
I called the TV repair thing quits, the day the manager made me pull all the new tubes out of a very expensive radio and replace with any old tube laying around. Sale was to the local Catholic Church where manager and owner were church members.

Now at 16 today the govt only allows a learner's permit and it's 18 for a license. This is why people drive worse today.

i'm glad i live in a country where the minimum wage is more than $7.25 an hour, university will not put you in debt for life, and health care is (to a point) socialised.

Teen years are best to learn since parents can punish. Now it's 18 and parents can't.
