Topic: I smoke too much
+Anonymous A — 12.9 years ago #27,340

I'm up to like a pack a day, guys. This is terrible. And it's like a full pack, I used to smoke like 15 a day, now it's a pack, 20 cigarettes. I remember a year ago I was smoking like a pack a week, and not even thinking much of it, oh how things change. Or I could go like 3-4 days without smoking with minimal consequences, I can no longer go more than a day or two without severely freaking the fuck out.
That being said, I'm much more calm now that I smoke than I was before I smoked. I'm not very anxious, I don't get very depressed, etc. I kind of just give all my problems to the cigarette, so that's good.
Do any of you smoke? What do you smoke? I prefer Nat Sherman's or Parliaments, but am smoking reds today.

I know people near me who smoke boxes of the stuff a day.
I haven't touched tobacco since I was 19, the stuff is positively vile and nicotine does nothing for me as a stimulant.

Pic is not related. Cig packets have had big-assed warnings on them for years. Like Doc's jerk-off material, the image in that pic is around 7 years old.
+Anonymous E — 12.9 years ago, 38 seconds later, 5 minutes after the original post[T] [B] #320,916
I smoke tobacco in joints, and snort snuff, but no cigarettes nowadays.
I used to smoke about 10 a day, but I gave it up so easily I don't think I was ever addicted.

It's easy to let shit go when you're actively taking steps to shorten the amount of time you have left to deal with them.

How many joints do you smoke in a day?

Depends. sometimes up to 5 or 6, or like tonight, none.

I only smoke when I drink.
And I'm always drinking.

I smoke a lot less now. I just do the ecig/vape stuff now for the most part. I was at a pack a day though before I switched. I'll still smoke an actual cig now and again but a lot less and usually socially.

So you have a new GF who you describe as

You are working hard on getting Cancer which makes you not so much so good as a long term partner if you get my drift.

It's not like smoking is going to kill me within the next few years. I imagine I can do this until I'm in my 30's before major consequences occur, and then probably still be relatively okay until I'm in my 60's. Although I plan on quitting long before it gets to that point.
The quote is meant to just be a sort of silly observation that are sex isn't that premeditated. It's more in the moment than planned out.
Oh, and I'm far more likely to experience cardiac arrest than cancer, based on family history.

@320,947 (postmortem !!v2oCFlj.6)
LoL
So you're doing your own math. ...Have you looked up the odds?
In a 2006 European study, the risk of developing lung cancer was:
15.9% for current male smokers (9.5% for women)
24.4% for male “heavy smokers” defined as smoking more than 5 cigarettes per day (18.5% for women)
http://www.lung.org/lung-disease/lung-cancer/resources/facts-figures/lung-cancer-fact-sheet.html
Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in both men and women in the United States. In 1987, it surpassed breast cancer to become the leading cause of cancer deaths in women.
Lung cancer causes more deaths than the next three most common cancers combined (colon, breast and prostate). An estimated 160,340 Americans were expected to die from lung cancer in 2012, accounting for approximately 28 percent of all cancer deaths.

@320,954 (Syntax )
It also has to do with genetics, I have like a near 100% chance of having a heart attack before I'm 40. Cancer is definitely a risk, but a heart attack is likely to kill me before then.
Also, a little more than 160, 000 people. And remind me again how many smokers there are? I can tell you it's far more than 160, 000. Cardiac arrest is a far more likely outcome than lung cancer. And the statistics you put up "24%" actually seems like relatively low risk, odds are in my favor.
Not to mention the bullshit part of the post. "More than 5", okay clearly I'm more than 5, I'm at about 20. What is more than 5 defined as? Clearly my habit is less likely to kill me than the 3 packer, and more likely to kill me than the guy who smokes 10. So, bullshit all around.

Hey I did copypasta nor changed a thing.
Yea if you think you are at 100% risk for Heart problems you will end up as such. Males in my family were
exactly that Genes and no smoking.
Now and you can ask me how but I have a 99+% of never having heart problems cause I researched the how to prevent. But all bets are off for smokers.
So from WebMd
Most people associate cigarette smoking with breathing problems and lung cancer. But did you know that smoking is also a major cause of heart disease for men and women?
Almost 20% of all deaths from heart disease in the U.S. are directly related to cigarette smoking. That's because smoking is a major cause of coronary artery disease.
A person's risk of heart disease and heart attack greatly increases with the number of cigarettes he or she smokes. People who smoke have a two to four times higher chance of having heart disease. And smokers continue to increase their risk of heart attack the longer they smoke. Women who smoke and also take birth control pills increase several times their risk of heart attack, stroke, and peripheral vascular disease.
Cigarette smoke not only affects smokers. When you smoke, the people around you are also at risk for developing health problems, especially children. Environmental tobacco smoke (also called passive smoke or secondhand smoke) affects people who are frequently around smokers. Secondhand smoke can cause chronic respiratory conditions, cancer, and heart disease. It is estimated that nearly 70,000 nonsmokers die from heart disease each year as a result of exposure to environmental tobacco smoke.
