I'm doing a debate in school and I'm on the side of legalization, and I need to know is it a gateway drug? Thanks :)

Depends on the person, I guess.

As an expert on marijuana, I can confirm that it is a subjective matter. This means that pro-legalization/users will always defend the idea that it is not, and old fart politicians/police will always demonize it. Has anyone ever smoked a joint and said, "that was lame, I'm gonna go snort some coke"? No, but of course someone who uses marijuana or alcohol is more likely to be open to other drugs as well.

The Confucians believe that even food is a gateway drug.

When I was going through "drug education" in school, it seemed to me they were making marijuana out to be this drug that made you crazy (reference "Reefer Madness"). We were told about the horrible hallucinations, lack of self-control, being "foreverhigh", and flashbacks, etc. when I tried weed and none of those things happened, well naturally I assumed they were lying about all drugs, so why not?
If "drug education" actually told the truth, I wonder what difference it might make in the gateway drug theory?

I wish I could smoke weed once and be foreverhigh.

It's a bullshit drug war slogan. Pot is a getaway drug not a gateway drug.
