I have spent a lot more tyme in Catholic n Greek n other churches then ever the Jewish churches.
Now my next door neighbor is one huge and I mean huge Temple aka Self Realization Fellowship. But they are Vegetarians and I Bar-B-Q a great deal and kinda smile but I do not mean any harm with the smoke.

Buddy of mine had similar childhood. Both parents Jewish but parents split up and he wasn't brought up in the religion. Looked like typical big fat biker long hair and all. Ate tons of bacon and really unhealthy crap had heart by pass surgery in his 40's. Unlike you I don't think he ever jogged more than ten feet.

My parents stayed together. Mom was brought up Kosher but when she was around 18 a neighbor invited her over for breakfast. One wiff of bacon and one taste and of course she was hooked n converted for life from those kosher rules.
Males in my family all have had heart issues re Genetic high Cholesterol. I had myself checked and they wanted to roto rooter a few pipes. Instead I hit UCLA Med library - Read how one could do it yourself which is NOT so easy to do. But I did it and have total clean pipes which also is a major reason for the daily exercise Aerobic gig.
But if I had only one year to live you can be sure I wood eat a lot more bacon and probably still run cause the Endorphin high everyday (not 2day) but 95% of tyme is worth it.
