Most autists desire real social interaction, even if they can not possibly contribute anything to the relationship (thus tending to the side of parasitic lofers, particularly the retarded.) A chat-bot looks contrived even to the standards of an autist; we appreciate aesthetics of human interaction well, we just don't get the specifics of intentions and motivations behind what people do sometimes (I'm a bit better in this respect thanks to years of meth-induced paranoia.) They're fun to play with, but as a toy, of no therapeutic value, and I think even your friend sees that, to his credit. Seems like you just want to dehumanize him for a laugh to be honest.

Likely, unless said bot is programmed to be naturally insistent and inquisitive, thus initiating most of the conversation; even then, that has the appearance of nagging which may get on an autist's nerves, especially if he is socially illiterate enough to see that the bot isn't even doing it intentionally (I doubt he'd get the concept of Turing passability and probably thinks there's a magic man inside the computer or some shit trying to piss him off, if I've the right impression about his functioning level.)

As for Tamagotchi: I bought one of those things once in the 90s btw, mine kept dying on me. Why a grown man would play with such a thing must speak volumes about my idiocy, right? I was just bored and curious as to what the fuss was about.
