I can really identify with this song. Given my obvious reliance and, verging on obsessive, interest in this new technological generation of gadgets, it comes as no surprise to me to learn that iPads are being deemed as the ‘miracle device’ for Autism. Well somewhat of a surprise as personally I still think little Nexus should be given the title; iPads can’t even load flash, how miraculous is that? Experts have identified that the iPad can lessen the symptoms of the disorder and help children deal with sensory overload. Many believe this is due to the amount of control one has on an iPad; unlike a computer or laptop you can actually touch the interface and are therefore more absorbed in the device. It allows the individual to connect to the outside world, but at a safe distance and with a protective shield, allowing them to do so at their own pace. In addition to this it is portable, easy to use and above all predictable. As I mentioned previously, it allows you to externally map things in a clear and visual way. I would describe it as an Autistic person’s PA, void of human error and interference.
