I have been on Tumblr, and the obsession with "whiteness" is a little bit scary to say the least. You have people re-fashioning and re-writing history by incorporating "whiteness" into historical events where it was not an issue. They even incorporate "whiteness" into the Bible somehow. Then you have people of certain ethnicities who write poems and drum up blogs just to complain about being considered "white." They have even made up words like "white-passing." You also have the Zimmerman case where people constantly talk about "white privilege" and the trials and tribulations of being a "person of color" without even acknowledging that Zimmerman is a "person of color" himself. They try to say that he is "white-passing," but I have seen his mugshot, and there is no way anyone looks at him and sees a white man. He is as dark as George Lopez.
So since Italians, Spaniards, Armenians, Greeks, and Ashkenazi Jews became non-white, would someone who is a quarter of one of those ethnicities be considered mixed-race? Are Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson persons of color? This is a serious question. I don't even know what "white" is anymore.
And if only Northern Europeans are "white," then that means there are not many "whites" in the U.S. to begin with because most "whites" in the U.S. are ethnically mixed. I know that for a fact.
So who are all of these "white" people you all are complaining about?
