Topic: Thoughts on archery?

I've always been intersted in it even back in school, but idk if I want to start putting money into this when it's not going to go anywhere raided stress relief and self defense.
I don't like guns and I will probably never own a gun and there is something more novel about a bow vs a glock.

I think that would be awesome. Even if it doesn't go anywhere its still a sweet ass hobby to have

I'm seriously considering it. One of the obvious attractions is that it's much cheaper than purchasing a gun.

Do it fggt. Although you can easily spend just as much getting into archery as you would a firearm. If you have the space to practice archery, go for it.

I've owned several bows over the years and it is certainly satisfying when you hit the bullseye.

Your first robin hood is better. I watched my dad almost double, peeled 7 inches from the back arrow, probably less than 1/100th of an inch from doing it at 40 yards. I've hit a robin hood once, and almost a second. Ruined plenty of arrows... I haven't shot in ten years, I should pick it back up. My gear is outdated. My hunting bow is an overdraw, which means I'm probably suicidal lol.
Nice when your city has backstops for archery in public parks. Not so nice when local morons burn them down every other year.

I've done it a time or two, never on purpose. I only fire three at the target to avoid tearing up the flights.
You use a compound bow? I've only owned recurves, started with a Bear 40 lb and used a Hoyt 60 lb for hunting. My ex backed over my Hoyt with my truck and the Bear was used up.
It really sucks when idiots can't leave shit alone.

A long rest that goes back to the middle of your forearm. You use arrows similar in length and diameter as crossbow bolts. Before the current cam design it was the only way to get 300fps/65% letoff. When you are hunting it means the broadhead is in a great place for you to accidentally suicide the correct way.
Works great, but modern design means it is unnecessary. I'm just too cheap to replace it.
My target bow is about 40 years old and seriously obsolete. Awesome in it's day, but I'm not competitive enough to care or feel the need to dro a couple grand on a new one.

Get into competitive archery --- the kind that shoots at targets, not animals. There is tons of really fun, great gear you can spend money on, and you meet lots of interesting people.

Awesome explanation! Thanks.
I don't have a bow anymore and would rather buy more guns if I were to spend that much.

Targets do not taste good. Deer and grouse do.
