Topic: When I was a mere boy of age 5 I already had class consciousness and it tormented me.

When I was in primary school (Little kiddy school in England) we had assemblies every day.
If it was your birthday you were called to the front to talk about the presents you got.

These were the early days of electronic toys so everyone would always bring awesome toys.
They'd bring all their toys and show off how awesome and rich they were.

I was from a poor family. I was part of the underclass.
( It makes me hate my middle class profession now )

But I didn't get much for birthdays.
On this particular birthday we didn't have any money and "all I got" was a cheap box of doctors toys.
Like a little knee hammer etc. I actually loved them.

But I sat there thinking. My toys compared to all the others who had birthdays that week.
Mine was so meager and unimpressive. I didn't want them to know.

So I picked up my doctor toy box. I slipped out the class room.
And then I ran home out of shame.
My mother then complained to the school asking how the hell I got out of school as a 5 year old and caused a stink.

But man I already knew I was poor but I remember those feelings so vividly.
