I'd get a granular ant poison, and mix it with some sugar, and flour.

Some people do douse big red ant hills with gasoline, and set them on fire.

As far as household items go (or at least in-expensive but effective methods go) try obtaining some boric acid (BORAX) and dusting the antbeds pretty liberally. It kills them off and has a residual effect. Grits also work but it isn't nearly as effective. Lighting it on fire with gasoline/lighter-fluid may be more amusing but it's not all that effective in the long term. Flooding it isn't all that effective either and not nearly as entertaining as lighting it on fire. For best results use boric acid (Ask for "Borax", it'll be close to the detergents in your local supermarket. It's also great for other pests. Just consider it chemical warfare to assuage any desire to set things on fire.
Boric acid has a number of uses but it's a pretty good for pest control. Look for this box (see image).

burn it and then use the boric acid for the residual effect

Try obtaining some toilet bleach and then drinking it.

I'm surprised The Doctor hasn't imparted his wisdom.
