Just unbelievable DOS?

So like I am working for a monster company with a great reputation (Qualcomm inc) but it had a policy - program in whatever language makes you comfortable and it will get parsed in2 the rest.

It had good reasons re need to rush to market and no tyme to do anything uniform. So a few years later I join and am rushed to Australia to get a multi billion dollar system up and running faster then speed of light and hell I see no reason why I cannot do the impossible.

I knew most of the mega billon dollar system and had taken classes at company schools to fill in the blanks. I had this brand new never tested 10 Million Watt transmitter (6 meter dish gain) and I was get to go to finish that which was not working and had a team of people from several major companies from other countries.

So like any general or CEO I had to impress all these people so as to get respect and get them to follow my orders. System booted up for a trial run and I turn on dis and dat and then there was one box I had never used b4 but it was critical to the mission

I look at crib notes and it said PUT PC IN DOS COMMAND LINE MODE I was then expected to load in DOS Commands and there were pages n pages of lines of DOS code with all those exceptions as in a DOS Tree.

Y N Y Y N Y ....Syntax error ..........DOS and its Syntax error without a fucking hint of wot was wrong!!!!! It had been years since I done did DOS and it was only for Hobby commputer NOT MAKING MONEY as a Professional Engineer.

Then discovered that not one of the rest of the crew had a clue wot DOS was except they all heard of the Dyna~sour.

So I went step by step burning up a few hours for a 5 min task - Tyme difference in USA Au was horrid - When I finally connect with the Programmer who was a top gun at company I said hey wots with the DOS?

He said efficiency and speed of running the program and reducing chance of Puter crashing with a C or C+ or PERL which all know can be real fast but not classy.

I said ok but tyme to set up is and he says yes its just awful n tyme consuming and then said sorry I have to run to meeting and good luck with THAT.

DOS may it die die die cause its Bill Gates buying a crap pile of shit to sell to IBM for first PC and Gates bought it but always gets credit for inventing DOS.

Apple of course started with UNIX which was is faster then the basis for MS Puters DOS

I have 5 Sun Solaris work stations and a 6th sitting in corner and ready to hook up as soon as a new T1 line is installed. Full top level UNIX and yes UNIX is 1969 based and is the Heart and Soul of every major telecom and cell and Satellite system. I HAVE NEVER EVER had a UNIX based work station crash or freeze on me but yes I know it can happen.

I have two PCs with Win 7 and they won't be going to 8 Back as employee at Qualcomm ALL employees have a choice of MAC or PC. No exceptions . Lowest paid employee gets a choice of O/S

Forget what they call the IBM old O/S but I have used that and it was ok in my book and it did not crash. I hate just hate MS products.

Yea that's the one.

Its always been a challenge to get PC to interface a telecom switch. Switch's even the small ones for a small cell system have 1000's of CPUs running not all that fast but the parallel processing is the equiv of threaded massive multi core 3D architecture. OS/2 had more success but there were to few software engineers in2 working with it. I could have filled my house the those bought but never put to use. Could not donate them cause no one wood have a clue or the other software to put them to use. I think they all got recycled for gold n silver n copper - shame really.
