It was a user-friendly internet message board with a user base of half a dozen pedophiles who could post their immaculately-written fantasies. Why did this idea fail? Why does Zuckerberg fly around in his own private jet while Kimmo still lives with his mother in Sweden?
Question also for investors - why did you not donate/invest in this project? What about it made you think there wasn't billions to be made?

Serious answer: He would never be a "billionaire", but the site could have been successful if someone else ran it, and it's moderators weren't either creepy or drunks.

Also and Moot on occasions ceems to jump in when I bring this fact up but given this site runs on his server and no one not anyone has figured out how he keeps his site running and sure he has begged and begged to keep people donating but band width can be very very expensive and then the servers to buy and upkeep and people on pay roll for Admin stuff mods cannot do.
Traffic does not by itself make for making money and bet no one here read the last 10k report from Facebook - they not only not making money they are losing customer base rapidly.

Yea once long ago and I think it was either in Long Beach Ca or San Francisco at a conference I asked you that question and at the tyme all you did was screw up face.

I am Genius on making big bucks with work I do and I have even for the fun of trying helped a friend in the garment biz with turn around of her company but frankly I have no clue how I wood make money doing this web stuff as positive cash flow and I was twice given a chance to buy a going biz and backed out cause wot I don't know is too much when it comes to BW and cost of keeping them servers fed.
First opportunity was on a system burning up $14,000 month is BW with 13-15 T1's to pay for and 4 servers to handle. I had the cash to buy and it wood have been pure stoooopid.
Founders one moved on to be in on Youtube start up. Other moved on to PhD and had a spider named after and he does databases and a famous Java book. Tyming

AnonTalk could have actually been profitable if it were run halfway sanely. 4chan suffers from hosting tons of images that generate unsustainable bandwidth expenses and content and community that many advertisers will not touch. AnonTalk would still have a hard time with mainstream advertisers, but would be efficient on bandwidth due to no images and low filesize pages with scant design elements. It would still have to take raunchier and less mainstream advertisers like 4chan does (not that the userbase would care) but the difference in hosting cost would make it profitable. With even just a chunk of the traffic 4chan has, a non-Kimmo AnonTalk Sysop could have carved out a desirable enterprise.

Its been a while since I looked. But Kimmo moved SP's for several reasons. First cause they could not deal with content nor reports that kept them too busy.
2nd of course because he needed a SP with lots of protection from raids Dos Spam attacks
All I remember is/was the last provider costs him and dooooon't quote me on this but I think it was around $240/month and that's just text content. I remember that there was no useful plan under $150 or so.
The other thing is and very few around here know what I mean when I point this out - Appearance and function of Non PhP Bbs as chans really look like the dark ages of the net when Usenet was the only Bbs and everything else. Chans other then say F2 look about as stripped down as down can be.
I have this aged point of view of course. Back as a kid people bought 7 inch or so TVs and put up giant magnifying glass in front to amplify image - was distorted -
Screens got bigger and monster yet now people are watching a full movie on a frigging hand held with crap sound. I wood have failed biz 101 on all this cause I wood never have predicted it wood go this way on current net re chan BBs or view of a movie on a smart phone or tablet.

$240 is nothing. If your website can't bring in far more than that in advertising, you have a failed business model.
