Topic: Is male rape likely to be as traumatic as female rape?
+Anonymous A — 13.5 years ago #18,733
Is there some essentially different about the trauma that a female who has been raped would experience versus a man being raped? And this sort of thing I know it happens much less, but men can be raped. I'm a gay man and am extremely promiscuous to boot and frankly can't imagine what it would be like to be raped. I'm also quite a gentle person, not at all insensitive, but just really curious. Is there something about the trauma of rape that would affect the female more strongly than the male? I wonder if there is not specifically sacred about (trying not to be crude here) "female plumbing"... I know rape is an act of violence, not sex. And I know it's about taking control and power away from the person. But is there something that of reverence (that almost seems to assume mythical proportions) about feminine virtue that is so embedded in culture and life itself that would make more traumatic (if not necessarily more physically painful) for the woman than a man. Does this make sense to anybody?
On another note, I wonder how many male rape victims' perpetrators are male as opposed to female? I would think the majority of male rape takes place in the prison system. Also, how would (ignorance showing here) a woman rape a man? Unless, the female were adult and the male was a young boy. Or the woman drugged the man, and it was not consensual. I am having some difficulty picturing this latter scenario, at any rate.

Men are taught all their life they must supress their feelings. This is why men largely only pursue women sexually. Also women hate men with feelings, call them creepers or something.
So when a man is raped, he just has to stuff his feelings and drink and lift weights.
