I believe the humanized gods we worship are spirits and what made the universe is totally unhuman. Kinda like Buddhism but more Lovecraftian.
I miss Gavin to speak of Buddhism.

I'm kind of stuck. I don't believe in any, but I don't know if it's "there is no god" or just "there's no scientific basis, and the notion is somewhat silly when you think about being possible"

I don't believe in a god. Although there could be one who started the universe.
I believe heavily that there is no compassionate god who interferes with our lives.
And if there was a god who controls anything I think we have the chance to be morally superior.

People sometimes change religions? Like Christian becomes atheist, scientologist, buddhist, hindu, etc.
I've known Hindu who converted to Sihk.
What religion is so forever? Islam?

It's not a dumb quote dumbo.
It's a great quote explaining that the idea of a God who is above us and in control, who created humanity in his image but stunted in a way they could never understand his actions, is in direct opposition to the idea of liberty and freedom. And if there was God we would need to destroy him.
Or the second best thing, we abolish the idea of God.

the problem with many religions is that it is obssesed with consequences in the afterlife rather than influencing the present because people shouldnt be awful to each other. it tries to use this idea of warning bad results rather than encouraging compassion for each other which we should naturally feel for others as a species which is counter-productive to the human race and instead serves to separate us as people under the idea that my magical sky wizard has a bigger dick than your magical sky wizard.

What's funny is that most of them have some variation of "love thy neighbour", while at the same time encouraging brutal treatment of certain groups. Hell, sole of them probably don't even have the love thy neighbour part.

you're confusing atheism with anti-theism.
atheism=I don't think there's a god.
anti-theism=THERE IS NO GOD AND YOU'RE FUCKING DUMBSHIT RETARD IF YOU DISAGREE WITH ME.
religion=My god is the one true god and all others are false deities.
agnosticism=I don't really know if there's a god.

anti-theism is a circlejerk of angry teens who can't move past the fact that their parents made them go to church as a kid.

Agree with every word of this. Ultimately nobody has any clue where, how and why it all began. A certain section of the religious community are far too confident in their beliefs, but then so are rabid anti-theists like Dawkins.
Charles Bukowski summed it up well: "The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts and the stupid people are full of confidence."

Nope.
Theism : I believe in an absolute set of moral rules supposedly set by a supreme being that has shown no proof of its existence and refuses to do so.
Anti-theism : Basing your morality and actions on blind faith in an absent supreme being means it can't be questioned, debated or adapted by logic, philosophy nor any tool at human disposal. Your blind faith is entirely because of the society you grew up in and should be unlearned. Anyone who follows this morality, believes in an afterlife, believes a god controls events is dangerous to the world because of what these beliefs entail.
Theists are so aggressive in their beliefs of absolutely morality which are based on thousand year old tales.
Anti-theists are so aggressive in their beliefs that theism is bad for humanity based on human action, discussions of morality, history of theism and an analysis of what belief entails. And they're open to discussion.
No matter if it's an orthodox practitioner or a modern cherry picked church that lets gays marry that try to avoid discussing that Hindus and Sikhs are going straight to hell, they are basing their actions unto the world on blind belief and the overplayed quote of "I don't want a man with nuclear weapons who believes this world is just a test" is true.
Belittling anti-theism as a bunch of teenagers disregards the philosophical backing and the generations of people who died for the right to challenge the concept of faith entirely. You probably only hear of the teenagers because you quickly give up hope that the world can be any better when this blind faith is perpetuated by powerful people who use it for wealth and power.

You fail to acknowledge that there are more than 2 parties here. The world is not so black and white.
> Belittling anti-theism as a bunch of teenagers disregards the philosophical backing and the generations of people who died for the right to challenge the concept of faith entirely.
You also misread me here. I fully support the right of people to challenge the validity of a religion. The problem is that anti-theists use the same methods of challenge that religious zealots do, that being to deny the potential validity of any idea outside of their own. This is exactly the sort of radicalism that religious higher-ups present as proof that people who don't believe in god are immoral savages.
If we are ever to properly eliminate the institution of any "higher power" we need to show that "godless" people are decent human beings by their own actions. We cannot be divisive while striving towards equality of thought.

We will never be able to show that atheists are decent, because no matter their actions, theists will never see them as such.
